A custom person-and-pet figurine works best when the reference photos answer three questions clearly: what each face looks like, which details make the pet recognizable, and how you want everyone arranged. You do not need one perfect photo. A small, well-chosen set is usually more useful.
Start with one clear face photo for each subject
Choose a front-facing or slightly angled photo with even lighting. Avoid heavy filters, sunglasses, strong shadows, or images where hair covers much of the face. If the person and pet are not together in the same photo, that is fine—send separate references and label them clearly.
Add a full-body reference for clothing and pose
A second photo can show the outfit, body position, footwear, or favorite accessory you want included. For the pet, include a photo that shows body shape, tail, ears, and any distinctive markings. If one side looks different from the other, send both views.
Tell us which details matter most
Photos can leave room for interpretation, so add a short note with your must-have details. Useful examples include:

Choose a simple arrangement
Clear silhouettes usually read better at figurine scale. Standing side by side, holding the pet, or placing the pet close to the person's leg are straightforward options. If relative height or size is important, mention it in your request rather than relying only on photos taken at different distances.
Know what the preview will look like
